Mint Sessions w/JJ Morbray

Words By Craig Thomas

So as the days close in on our wAFF event this Thursday, we continue ramp up the hype to the night by introducing you to the another top DJ who will be supporting wAFF on the night……. JJ Mowbray. Just like yesterdays featured guests, Har-v & LaidLaw, JJ will also be making his debut not just at Sessions, but at Mint Club itself, so it was only right that we sat down with the man him self and really got to know him just that tiny little bit to much haha! Enjoy the ensuing fun!

Q. Hey JJ welcome, so Just Like Har-v & Laidlaw, will also be making your mint sessions Debut on Thursday, In your own words, how does this compare to other other times you’ve played at new venues ?

A. Im very excited to be playing at mint. Its somewhere that I’ve been partying at since i was young, had some amazing nights there and its one of the venues I’ve always wanted to play. The sound system is about as good as it gets, suits my music to a tee :)

Q. JJ, tell us about the one track your reply digging in your sets at the minute?

A. One of the tracks that has really been doing it for me at the moment is an unreleased track by a Romanian producer called Arapu, one of the best tracks I have for sure. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it on Thursday. Always goes off!
Arapu – Belly

Q. Can you describe exactly the feeling you get looking out from behind the Decks and seeing a crowd with their hands in the air just absolutely going for it.

So now we’ve got the serious questions out of the way we want to get to know you on a personal level?

A. Haha. Not sure about taking a punch from him he was too much of a nice guy to hit anyone i think. But last year i played after Praslea in Birmingham, the guy is a genius, don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone put tracks together so smoothly and effortlessly and play such a wide range of music but make it work so well. Serious DJ envy.

Q. Out of all the Top DJ’s you’ve had the pleasure of being on the same line up as, who would you let punch you directly in the face?

Q. How many times does it take for you to listen to a song that you love before you actually hate it instead?

A. Haha, thats a good question. If i really love a track i only try and play it when I’m in clubs, try not to when I’m at home or mixing with my mates etc, then its always fresh in the club for me and i don’t get sick of it, i spend a lot of time looking for music so i don’t think i ever get to hate the tracks, always trying to find new ones.

Q. So JJ, your at one of leeds notorious student afterparties, its be expected that the choice of alcohol is limited at at best, your presented with a choice between a warm can of stella an open bottle of wine found behind a radiator and clear glass of liquid potential water but can’t be sure, which one would you choose? and why?

A. Good question. Would probably go for the wine, at least u can see if anyone has put a fag out in it! haha.
