Sessions Stream w/ Tom Foolery

Words By Michael McMahon

Introducing our head resident DJ Tom Foolery…….!

By now many of our followers and supports will know the charismatic tune selector, but if you haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing one of Toms sets, then you wont want to miss out this Thursday as he makes his return from a 3 week break for our wAFF event.

Hailing from the second city, Birmingham, Tom made his debut of mint sessions back at our last closing party just before the summer this year, and we were so impressed that over the summer break we decided to make him one of our residents.

He may only have been with Mint Sessions for 4 months but Tom comes with a vast amount experience, having played at such venues as Gatecrasher, Lab11 and The Rainbow Venues all in  Birmingham, Ladybird Cardiff, Egg London, and Ibiza which including a set at Sankeys and a four week stint every thursday at Ibiza rocks hotel! and of course features regularly at both Mint Club and Mint Warehouse.

In the early months of 2015, Tom landed his first two track EP entitled ’The Harder They Come’ on the ever growing label Defined Music ran by Javi Lopez, he also has a track entitled EL Gato Negro included on a various artist compilation album for Hide + Seek Records titled. He has just recently secured another solo two track EP with Intheloop records, which are based in California and ran by the rising start Lupe Fentues.

Q. Tom, Like the others we have asked we would like to know the one track that is really doing it for you in your sets right now?

A. Well, to be quite honest with you I’m struggling to give you just one, because when it comes to music I’m a serial hoarder, I have literally spend hundreds on downloads, but if I really think about it then I would say right now Danger Mouse by Jamie Jones, its a Tom Foolery sniper 😉 haha!

Q. Can you describe exactly the feeling you get looking out from behind the Decks and seeing a crowd with their hands in the air just absolutely going for it?

A. I can try! haha In my opinion to look out at a crowd, and see their faces light up and their hands in the air, who for the one night have let go of all of the cares and worries is like amazing, you just feeling on a boost if that makes sense.

So now we’ve got the serious questions out of the way we want to get to know you on a personal level?

Q. Out of all the Top DJ’s you’ve had the pleasure of being on the same line up as, who would you let punch you directly in the face?

A. Oh wow! Thats an interestingly strange question haha, I’m sure that my choice is far from the aggressive type but I had to choose any DJ it would be Huxley. When Huxley came down to the last Mint Sessions for that night we were partially BFF’S haha so yea I would mind if it was him.

Q. How many times does it take for you to listen to a song that you love before you actually hate it instead?

A. Haha nice question! Like I said I’m always on the hunt for new music and sometimes I forget exactly what tracks I have, but If I had to give a precise number of listens then 51.

Q. So Tom, your at one of leeds notorious student afterparties, its be expected that the choice of alcohol is limited at at best, your presented with a choice between a warm can of stella an open bottle of wine found behind a radiator and clear glass of liquid potential water but can’t be sure, which one would you choose? and why?

A. hahaha I have been to a few of the questions house parties you mention, and I can tell you from first hand experience I would choose the warm stella !!!!!
